We used to primarily learn things from people we knew, and the people we knew usually knew each other.

Now we primarily learn things from people we don't know, and the people we know usually don't know each other.

The result of this is that the variety of what we know has increased.
But the usefulness of what we know has decreased.

And we belong to tribes made of people we may never meet.
