It was so hard to remember the words, the lyrics. Pieces of the melody were there, but not the song. Not the full tapestry of music, the feeling, the texture. The imperfections. The perfections. All that was left was fragments of a tune I could scarcely whistle. The rest would never be heard again.

Surrounded by individualists, I alone stood up for conformity.

Culture is like a forest. Some of our interests are tall trees with deep roots, some are weeds that spread quickly but die soon. We never know if a newly sprouting idea will only last a season or grow for thousands of years.
